SOCORRO, N.M., November 26, 2003 – Dennis Schumacher, manager of the New Mexico Tech Residential Life Office, recently was honored by his colleagues in a regional professional organization by being awarded this year’s Association of Intermountain Housing Offices (AIMHO) Distinguished Service Award.

Schumacher’s commendation states that he was selected for the award on the basis of his “significant contributions to the Housing Program on [the New Mexico Tech] campus, demonstrated through outstanding job performance, loyalty, commitment, and consistency in going above and beyond expectations in assisting students, staff, and guests.”

“Receiving this award was certainly nice,” Schumacher says, “but having been nominated by my co-workers here at Tech was an even better personal tribute for me. The nomination alone meant more to me than whether or not I actually won the award.”

In his role as manager of student housing and residential life at New Mexico Tech, Schumacher oversees a staff consisting of full-time office employees as well as Tech students who work part-time as resident assistants in their respective resident halls.

“Dennis’ work as manager of Residential Life at New Mexico Tech has gone beyond providing safe and inviting living environments for students,” says John R. Juarez, Tech’s vice president for student and university relations. “His concern for students’ health and well-being is well demonstrated in his proactive work with campus security and his ongoing collaborations with other university offices to ensure that Tech students fully enjoy the campus life experience.”

Schumacher has been the manager of the New Mexico Tech Residential Life Office since March 1998.
