SOCORRO, N.M., Dec. 1, 2005 – The latest edition of Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine has listed New Mexico Tech among its 2005 “Publisher’s Picks List,” the national magazine’s annual listing of colleges and universities in the U.S.A. and Puerto Rico that “are doing a commendable job of recruiting, retaining, educating, and graduating Hispanics.”

Hispanic Outlook’s publisher, José López-Isa, congratulated all his magazine’s “Publisher’s Picks,” and cited several factors that make an institution a good choice for Hispanic students, including academics, programs for minorities, institutional partnerships, faculty, and the students themselves.

“We tip our hats to all the hardworking and talented administrators, faculty, counselors, mentors, grant writers, fund-raisers, and active alumni at these Publisher’s Picks,” López-Isa wrote.

New Mexico Tech President Daniel H. López said he and other Tech administrators were pleased to learn that the state-supported research university in Socorro had been included among yet another list of top universities.

“As we continue to build up our efforts to recruit, retain, and graduate Hispanics and other under-represented minority students at New Mexico Tech, it is gratifying that a national magazine like Hispanic Outlook should choose to acknowledge our hard work in this area,” López said.
