Shooting Club Hosts Statewide Meeting

SOCORRO, N.M. February 13, 2014 – The New Mexico Tech Shooting Sports Club, along with the Socorro Gun Club, is hosting the New Mexico Shooting Sports Association 2014 annual meeting in Socorro this weekend.

The clubs invite anyone interested in shooting sports to participate in workshops, social events, shooting competitions and fun shoots Saturday and Sunday at Macey Center and the Socorro Gun Range south of town.

Tech club advisor Virginia McLemore said more than 65 people are already registered. The meeting includes safety presentations, workshops and tours of the Bosque and EMRTC.

McLemore said, “We’re proud to have this meeting back in Socorro again. We have folks coming from all over the state.”

Registration is $6; lunch is $15; dinner is $30; and the fun shoot is $3. Register by contacting McLemore at ginger@nmbg.nmt.edu and pay at the door.

5 p.m.  Sarsaparilla and suds, cocktail hour and cash bar (Macey Center)

6 p.m.  Dinner with speaker Ron Schmeits of the NRA (Cost $30) (Macey Center)

            Silent auction and door prizes at dinner to support both Association and the Tech Gun Club!

Socorro Gun Range February 16, 2014 (The range has metallic targets out to 500 yards)

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or later Fun shoot

.22 LR targets (smallbore rifle range)

Pistol steel targets (rifle range)

Workshop: Care and feeding of your AR15 (Rick Davis)

AR15 and other rifles shoot (rifle range up to 500 yd range)

Lunch will be provided (hot dogs, hamburgers) at 11:30.
