Big-Screen Crew Shoots Scenes At EMRTC

SOCORRO, N.M. September 21, 2011– A Hollywood film crew spent a day in Socorro filming scenes for “The Banshee Chapter” on the EMRTC test range on the campus of New Mexico Tech.

Zachary Quinto's production company, Before The Door Pictures, has partnered with Sunchaser Entertainment and German producer Christian Arnold-Beutel (The Ledge, Super Hybrid) to produce the elevated horror feature The Banshee Chapter. Quinto is best known for portraying Spock in the 2010 film Star Trek.

“We’re happy that New Mexico Tech could provide support to the movie industry in New Mexico,” Vice President of Research Dr. Van Romero said. “I was also happy to see so many New Mexicans working on the film crew.”

The film crew required a bunker, of which EMRTC has several on its test range. The filming was Sunday, September 18.

The filming is rare large-screen appearance for Socorro. The 1971 Roger Corman movie Gas-s-s-s was filmed in and around Socorro. The movie Contact used footage filmed at the Very Large Array 50 miles west of Tech.

The Banshee Chapter began principal photography in August in New Mexico. According to a press release from Before The Door, the movie centers on a young, female journalist who follows the mysterious trail of a missing friend who had been experimenting with mind-altering chemicals developed in secret government drug tests. A fast-paced blend of fact and fiction, the film is based on real documents, actual test subject testimony, and uncovered secrets about programs run by the CIA.

Interactive and transmedia director Blair Erickson wrote the screenplay and will make his feature directorial debut on the project. Sunchaser Entertainment's Stephanie Riggs and Corey Moosawill of Before the Door Productions are the producers. Arnold-Beutel will serve as executive producer along with Quinto and Neal Dodson and Sean Akers of Before the Door.
